LYTTON – The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting Nicomen Indian Band and Cascades Natural Resource District in conducting multiple pile burns in the Lytton area.
Key goals of these pile burning projects include:
- removing forest fuels to reduce the long-term risk of wildfire
- reduce fuel loading of burnt dead debris from previous wildfires
The first pile burning projects is located 10 kilometres up Nicomen River Road as part a multi-year project, which has been active since 2022. There will be roughly 50 piles being burnt, located approximately 20 kilometres north of Lytton. This project is in partnership with Nicomen Indian Band.
The second pile burning project will be conducted five kilometres north of Lytton and there will be approximately 20 piles being burnt. This project is implemented with support from the Cascades Natural Resource District.
Smoke may be visible from the Village of Lytton, Nicomen Indian Band and surrounding areas, and to motorists travelling along Highway 1.
The exact timing of these burns will depend on weather and site conditions, but both projects could begin as early as Monday, Oct. 20, 2025 until Monday, Nov. 24, 2025. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.
