Emergencies can happen anytime, whether you’re at home, at work or on the road. Hopefully you won’t ever need it, but having a completed home emergency plan can make all the difference by keeping you and your loved ones calm, connected and safe.
Your home emergency plan should include the contact information of your loved ones and other details, such as insurance policies and out-of-area emergency contacts.
Making a home emergency plan doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming. With the right tools, it shouldn’t take too long and cost nothing to complete with the people in your home.
Get started with PreparedBC’s free online Emergency Ready Planner
The new Emergency Ready Planner allows you to create your home emergency plan from your cellphone or computer.
It includes prompts to help tailor the plan to your needs, such as potential local hazards, disabilities or mobility issues, pets or animals, number of school-aged children, older adults, etc. Once complete, the plan can be saved electronically, or you can print it out.
Do you prefer to handwrite your plan?
PreparedBC has got you covered there too! PreparedBC offers a fill-in-the-blanks home emergency plan template available in French, Punjabi, Simplified and Traditional Chinese and English that you can print and add your handwritten information.
You made your plan! Now what?
Once you complete your home emergency plan, store it in your home emergency kit, so you know exactly where to find it.
Make copies to also include in each person’s grab-and-go bag. You can even email digital copies to yourself or your emergency contact(s), just in case.
Remember to review and update your plan yearly, or if there is a change in your situation, such as a different job or school, getting a pet, or moving to a new home.
