Teachers delivering French language education to grades 4 to 8 have a new FREE resource. Brise-danger, the French language version of the wildly popular Master of Disaster emergency preparedness program is now available to order.
The program involves minimal preparation and is organized into three emergency preparedness lessons:
- Know your hazards, to understand what to prepare for
- Gather your supplies, to help your household stay safe and comfortable during an emergency
- Make a plan, to know what to do, where to go and who to contact in an emergency

Updated in 2019 to be more inclusive and include Indigenous Knowledge, the program content aligns with B.C.’s Curriculum and was designed in partnership with the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR), the Ministry of Education and Child Care and the First Nations Emergency Services’ Society.
Brise-danger materials feature the Guide de préparation (Get Ready Guide student workbook), made up of valuable information, activities, games, Indigenous Knowledge and resources.
To deliver the program, educators need a Kit pédagogique (teaching kit) which includes the Guide d’enseignement (teaching guide) and the Sac d’ evacuation jeu (Grab-and-go-bag game) made up of an affiche (poster) and cartes (cards).

Teachers also need to order a Kit de l’élève for each learner. It’s made up of the Guide de préparation, a Plan d’urgence pour la maison (Brise-danger home emergency plan) and a PreparedBC drawstring bag.
Thanks to funding provided by the Canada-British Columbia Agreement on French Language Services, all Brise-danger program materials and shipping are FREE.
Brise-danger was developed by PreparedBC, EMCR’s public education team.
