Friday December 5, 2025

Jennifer McCrea
Acting Deputy Minister of Education and Child Care

Happy Friday, everyone. It was great to see so many of you at the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) Annual Education Conference in Vancouver today. The conference theme reminds us of the work we do every day together; Creating an Education System Worthy of our Children and Indigenous Education Councils will provide important leadership to make that a reality across the province.

There are a number of updates below that are timely. I have also included a flag half-masting notification to mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women for Saturday, December 6, in case you’d like to follow suit.

Enjoy your weekend,

Jennifer

EDX Phase 3 coming in early 2026

Starting in early 2026, graduation records and achievement data collection (currently known as “TRAX”) will move to the Education Data Exchange (EDX) platform. This means that EDX will fully replace the School Secure Web (SSW), consolidating student collections into a single platform.

What is included in Phase 3?

    • Replacing SSW: TRAX/Graduation data collection will move to the EDX platform
    • User interface: Easy to find reports for error detection and graduation status
    • User roles: New “view-only” role so counsellors and staff supporting graduation can view student TVR and transcript records

What can you do to prepare for this upcoming change?

    1. Review Graduation Data Specifications
A draft version of the new Graduation Data Collection Specifications is now available for review. These specifications will replace the current TRAX Data Transfer specifications at go-live.

Note: DEM, CRS, and XAM files remain unchanged. However, TRAX performed extensive up behind-the-scenes data clean-up; EDX will encourage more school-level corrections to improve data transparency.

    2. Assign New Roles
Ensure appropriate staff are added to EDX with Graduation Administrator or View Only roles. Find the Account Management instructions on the EDX training SharePoint site.

    3. Participate in Training
Visit and subscribe to the EDX Info Hub for updates to stay informed about upcoming training opportunities, updated support materials, and implementation timelines.

Reminder: Dual Credit Pathway to Teacher Education for First Nation Students Expression of Interest applications due January 30

Applications for the Dual Credit Pathway to Teacher Education for First Nation Students Expression of Interest are due by 4 pm on January 30, 2026. This initiative aims to support more First Nation students to consider teaching as a career path through dual credit opportunities. Applications for this EOI must be developed and implemented in partnership with one or more local First Nations and one or more post-secondary institutions.

Visit the Dual Credit web page to access the application form and resources, including a new frequently asked questions document. Additional questions can be sent to workforce.development@gov.bc.ca.

This initiative is in alignment with Action 4.02 of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act Action Plan and was co-developed through a joint working group with the Ministry of Education and Child Care, Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, First Nations Education Steering Committee, and Indigenous Adult and Higher Learning Association, to support the training, recruitment and retention of First Nation teachers.
