LYTTON – The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting Nicomen Indian Band in conducting a fuels management project approximately one kilometre south of the community, along the Nicomen River Road. Crews will be falling and burning dead trees and woody debris from ongoing work in the area.
Key goals of this pile burning project include:
- reducing build-up of dead and combustible material made from chainsaw training and community protection
- removing forest fuels to reduce the long-term risk of wildfire
- clean up the right of way along the FSR where an excess of debris and fuel has built up from a previous wildfire activity
Smoke may be visible to residents along Nicomen River Road, surrounding communities and to motorists traveling along Highway 1.
The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as April 8, 2026. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.
