Pile burning planned for Helmer Lake area

MERRITT – The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting Rock Solid Industries in conducting a pile burning project about 30 kilometres northeast of Merritt.

Smoke may be visible from Merritt, Logan Lake, Lac le Jeune and surrounding areas. It will also be highly visible to motorists travelling along Highway 5.

BC Wildfire Service crews will be working to burn approximately 30 to 50 piles. This pile burning project is taking place in an effort to clean up, help reduce wildfire hazards by reducing accumulations of fuels (e.g., dead wood or brush) and promote ecosystem restoration in the area.

The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as Monday, November 2, 2026. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.
