Pile burning near Burns Lake

BURNS LAKE – The debris management phase of a wildfire risk reduction project approximately 33 kilometres north of Burns Lake, west of Johnson Bay and Babine Lake Road, has begun. This project is funded through the Community Resiliency Investment Program and is led by the Nadina Natural Resource District with support from BC Wildfire Service. The piles will consist of branches and debris hand piled as part of the wildfire risk reduction operations throughout the 15 hectare project area.

Completing this project will help reduce the wildfire hazard to adjacent properties. Nadina Natural Resource District staff with support from BC Wildfire Service, are continuing to monitor the project to ensure the operational treatment meets the fuel management prescription specifications and project objectives.

Burning will happen on any day that the venting forecast is good or fair, between February 1 and April 30, 2026 or until all burning is complete. Smoke will likely be visible from adjacent properties, and may also be visible from the community of Burns Lake and to motorists along Highway 16.
