Pile burning around Houston

HOUSTON – Pile burning will be taking place at two locations close to the community of Houston as part of the debris management phase of two wildfire risk reduction projects. The Gun Range Road project is approximately 5 kilometres northeast of Houston, and the Lund Subdivision project is about 3.5 kilometres south of Houston, east of Mountainview Drive near the Mountainview Cemetery.

These projects are funded through the Community Resiliency Investment Program and are led by the Nadina Natural Resource District with support from BC Wildfire Service. Completing them will help reduce the wildfire hazard to nearby residences.

Pile burning will clean up the branches and debris created as a result of wildfire risk reduction operations throughout the 14 hectare project area. Nadina Natural Resource District staff with support from BC Wildfire Service, will continue to monitor the project to ensure the operational treatment meets the fuel management prescription specifications and project objectives.

Burning will happen on any day that the venting forecast is good or fair, between February 1 and April 30, 2026. Smoke will likely be visible from the community of Houston and to motorists along Highway 16.
