Increased potential for new starts in Fort Nelson and Fort St. John Fire areas due to lightning activity



Fort Nelson – Changing weather patterns are bringing increased potential for thunderstorms across the Fort Nelson and Fort St. John fire zones on Sunday, June 1.

These conditions will increase the risk of new wildfire starts, and could increase fire behaviour on existing wildfires.

Thunderstorm activity is expected from the northwest to the southeast starting around 3 pm. Dry lightning and winds gusting up to 60 kilometres per hour are forecast through the evening into the morning of Monday, June 2.  

The public is one of our greatest resources when it comes to reporting wildfires. Approximately 40% of wildfires are reported by members of the public. There are a number of ways to report:
