Caution with open burning during weather event

PARKSVILLE – Developing this evening and into the weekend, the coast will experience an early spring outflow pattern and light to moderate winds, which are expected to lower relative humidity significantly. Outflow conditions occur when drier air flows out from the mountains via fjords and valleys toward the water.

The Coastal Fire Centre would like to alert our industry partners, along with the public, that the potential for wildfires to ignite from industrial activities and open fires will be elevated during this time.

While there are no open fire prohibitions within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction at this time, we strongly suggest caution with any open fire during this period of elevated risk.

If lighting a fire within any local government jurisdiction, you must follow any bylaws or restrictions that are in place.
