Area Restriction extension for the Rossmoore Lake wildfire



KAMLOOPS – The BC Wildfire Service has updated the Area Restriction Order within the vicinity of the Rossmoore Lake wildfire (K22024), located approximately 10 kilometres south of Kamloops. This updated Area Restriction Order takes effect at at 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Sept. 15, 2023, once the current Order expires, and remains in force until the earlier of 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on October 3, 2023, or until the Order is rescinded.

The restriction area has decreased to reflect the areas where personnel, heavy equipment and helicopters continue to work. This updated Area Restriction Order reflects the ongoing need to protect public and BC Wildfire Service personnel safety in areas where fire suppression activities are taking place.

Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area unless the person:

(a) Travelling as a person acting in an official capacity;

(b) Travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression activities;

(c) Travelling to or from his or her principal residence, that is not under an evacuation order;

(d) Travelling to or from his or her private or leased property for the purposes of accessing his or her secondary residence or recreational property, that is not under an evacuation order;

(e) Using a highway as defined in the Highway Act; or

(f) Engaging and/or participating in agricultural activities pertaining to livestock or agriculture management on Crown Range, Crown Grazing Lease, private or leased property.

This Order applies to Crown land within the geographic boundaries described below and as outlined in the heavy black dashed and shaded grey line on the attached map.

North Boundary: Commencing at Point 1 (50° 33.557′, 120° 26.094′) at the junction of Lac Le Jeune Road and Goose Lake Road, travel east along Goose Lake Road to the junction of Goose Lake Road and the west edge of survey parcel 014386895 (Point 2: 50° 33.727′, -120° 24.565′). Then continue south along the west boundary of survey parcels 014385228 and 014386895 to Point 3 (50° 33.482′, -120° 24.566′) where Anderson Creek meets the west edge of survey parcel 014385228. Follow Anderson Creek east until it intersects Edith Lake Road, then continue south along Edith Lake Road to its intersection with the north edge of survey parcel 003248747 (Point 4: 50° 31.904′ -120° 20.848′). Travel east along the north boundary of survey parcels 003248747 and 014197766 to the northeast corner of parcel 014197766 (Point 5: 50° 31.904′-120° 19.749′).

East Boundary: Commencing at Point 5, travel south along the east boundary of survey parcels (014197766, 014198592 and 009935436) to the junction of Long Lake Road and survey parcel 009935436 (Point 6: 50° 30.589′, -120° 19.753′). Follow Long Lake Road in a southerly direction to the intersection with the east edge of survey parcel 014187060 (Point 7: 50° 28.389′, -120° 20.452′), then continue in a southerly direction along the east boundary of survey parcels (014187060, 014364620, 014364476, 014364425, 014364395, 014364336, 014187035, 014364182, 014187141) to the junction of Kullagh Lake Road and the eastern edge of parcel 014187060 (Point 8: 50° 24.110′, -120° 20.463′).

South Boundary: Commencing at Point 8, travel west along Kullagh Road and FSR 9683.01 to the intersection with the Pipeline R/W 0348290, then continue south along the west edge of the Pipeline R/W 0348290 to the south edge of survey parcel 014378761 (Point 9: 50° 23.163′, -120° 24.822′). Continue travelling west along the south edge of the survey parcels (014378761 and 012866881) to the intersection with FSR 9673.01, then travel west along FSR 9683.01 to the end of the road (Point 10: 50° 23.164′, -120° 27.221′). From here, take a bearing of 187.14° and travel for 710 meters to the northwest corner of survey parcel 012865613 (Point 11: 50° 22.044′, -120° 27.359′). Travel south along the western edge of survey parcel 012865613 to the junction with Frogmoore Creek (Point 12: 50° 21.759′-120° 27.359′), then travel northwest along Frogmoore Creek to the Unnamed Stream (Point 13: 50° 22.695′, -120° 30.450′)

West Boundary: Commencing at Point 13, travel 2.05km at a bearing of 8.47° to the junction of FSR 8748.25 and FSR 8478.2 (Point 14: 50° 24.725′ -120° 29.976′). From here travel 920 m at a bearing of 21.80° to the terminus of FSR 3715.5, then continue at a bearing of 7.70° degrees for 2.24 km to the southeast corner of survey parcel 013255355 (Point 15: 50° 27.796′, -120° 28.972′). Travel north along the west edge of the parcel to the northeast corner of PID 013255355 (Point 16: 50° 28.424′, -120° 28.968′). Then proceed east at a bearing of 358 ° for approximately 1669 metres to the most southeast corner of Lac Le Jeune Provincial Park boundary at Point 17 (50° 28.324′, -120° 27.565′). Follow Lac Le Jeune Provincial Park boundary north to the intersection with Ross Moore Lake FSR (Point 18: 50° 29.289′, -120° 27.554′). Continue north at a bearing of 85° for approximately 3373 metres to the southeast corner of McConnell Lake Provincial Park (Point 19: 50° 31.084′, -120° 27.089′). Proceed north along the McConnell Lake Provincial Park boundary to the intersection with Lac Le Juene Road (Point 20: 50° 31.696′, -120° 27.327′), then follow Lac Le Juene Road in a northerly direction back to Point 1.

The BC Wildfire Service would like to remind the public that while access to private residences are permitted, the public must remain out of active fire areas. Interference in these areas has a direct impact on operations and poses a safety risk to both the individual and to BC Wildfire Service personnel.

Failure to comply with Section 11 restricted area requirements may result in a violation ticket of $1,150.
