Smoke from pile burning may be visible in the Flat Lake and Chasm areas

100 Mile House—The Ministry of Forests will be burning approximately 400 piles of woody debris within the vicinity of several 2021 wildfires, including Flat Lake (C41602) and Chasm (C41866), to reduce fire hazard.

These burns are being completed to reduce fuel hazards created from the construction of control lines during past fire suppression activities. All efforts will be made to otherwise utilize merchantable fibre to reduce emissions where feasible.

Burning will occur throughout the winter until March 31, 2023, at which time any fires still burning will be extinguished. Ignitions and burning will only proceed if weather and site conditions are suitable and allow smoke to dissipate. BC Wildfire Service staff helped to prepare the piles and the burns will be conducted by Ministry of Forests staff or local contract crews.

Smoke may be visible from Highway 97, Highway 24 and areas around 100 Mile House, Lac La Hache, 70 Mile House, Green Lake and Clinton.
