Smoke from pile burning may be visible in the Young Lake area

100 Mile House — The Ministry of Forests will be burning approximately 50 piles of woody debris at multiple sites within the vicinity of the Young Lake wildfire (C41097) to reduce fire hazard.

These burns are being completed to reduce fuel hazards created from the construction of control lines during past fire suppression activities. All efforts will be made to otherwise utilize merchantable fibre to reduce emissions where feasible.

This project began in November 2022 and is expected to continue periodically until March 31, 2023. Ignitions and burning will only proceed if weather and site conditions are suitable and allow smoke to dissipate. BC Wildfire Service staff helped to prepare the piles and the burns will be conducted by Ministry of Forests staff or local contract crews.

Smoke may be visible from the Eagan-Bonaparte Road (3700), Clinton-Upper Loon Lake FSR (Chasm), Deadman-Vidette Road, Joe Ross Road and areas around Bonaparte Lake, Young Lake and Eagan Lake.
