Pile burning planned for Kelowna area

Kelowna – The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting the Ministry of Environment and Parks – Recreation Sites and Trails BC, in conducting a pile burning project at the Gillard Mountain Bike trail network parking lot, about three kilometres southeast of the Mission area within the City of Kelowna.

Smoke may be visible from Mission and surrounding areas of Kelowna.

BC Wildfire Service crews will be working to burn approximately one pile. This pile burning project is taking place in an effort to clean up and help reduce wildfire hazards by reducing accumulations of fuels (e.g., dead wood or brush) in the area.

The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as Monday, November 2, 2026. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.
