Pile burning planned for Sun Peaks area

KAMLOOPS– The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting Sun Peaks LLP in a pile burning project located about four kilometres northwest of the Village of Sun Peaks. Crews will be burning approximately 20 piles as conditions allow.

Key goals of this project work include:

  • Wildfire risk reduction
  • Helping to restore forest health and a properly functioning ecosystem
  • Removing forest fuels to reduce the long-term risk of wildfire

Smoke may be visible from the Village of Sun Peaks and surrounding areas and to motorists travelling along Sun Peaks Road.

The exact timing of this pile burning will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as Wednesday, Oct. 21. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.
