The Provincial Wildfire Reporting Centre has launched an online form as the preferred method for burn registration. The form is available on the Category 3 open fire page under Burn Registration although it will also be required for Category 4 Resource Management Open Fire.
Why are we making this change?
- The form is available anytime, allowing you to submit your information when convenient, without having to wait for business hours or on hold over the phone
- It’s faster; collecting all essential information and reducing subsequent communication to clarify or gather missing information
- It’s more accurate, allowing you to input, review and correct your information before submitting and reducing errors or misunderstandings that may otherwise occur over the phone, such as the spelling of names or email addresses
Can I still email or leave a message instead?
- Yes, these options will still be available for cases where applicants cannot access or navigate the form. However, to expedite receipt of your burn registration number, we strongly encourage you to use the form
What if I have more than three burns to register?
- The form can accommodate registration for up to three burns
- If you need to register more than three burns at one time, please email HPR.1800@gov.bc.ca. You will be provided with a spreadsheet into which you can enter required information and send back to HPR.1800@gov.bc.ca for registration
How quickly can I expect my burn registration number using the form?
- Registration number requests are received and processed between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday to Friday
- The turnaround time for obtaining a registration number after completing the online form is typically within the hour, or within the same day if there is a high volume of requests
- Requests are processed in the order they are received and processing time may increase depending on demand, venting conditions, or if any required information is missing
Question not answered here?
- please email HPR.1800@gov.bc.ca
Reminder: Completing the form, emailing the BC Wildfire Service, or leaving a voicemail does not fulfill the requirement for obtaining a burn registration number. Clients must receive a response with a number and notice that their registration number is active.
