With seemingly unavoidable headlines about climate change and frequent emergencies such as wildfire, flood and drought, it makes sense to feel nervous or anxious about what lies ahead. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bccdc.ca\/health-info\/prevention-public-health\/climate-change-health\">Our health is connected to the health of the planet<\/a>. We have worries for ourselves and our neighbourhoods, as well as for the future and it\u2019s generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:55.66%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3 tips for staying action-oriented<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can take action to address the climate crisis while also taking care of yourself. Here are three strategies to help&nbsp;stay action-oriented while working through the feelings and emotions of eco-anxiety:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Connect with others who share your concerns.<\/strong> Build a sense of community and purpose. You can work together to discuss concerns, develop an action plan and be heard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Get outside and enjoy your neighbourhood and nature.<\/strong> Listen to the birds, feel the breeze against your skin. Breathe. Take the time to reconnect with what you\u2019re protecting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Find credible sources of information. <\/strong>Stay connected to your First Nation, community or local government so you know you\u2019ll receive reliable local information during an emergency. Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emergencyinfobc.gov.bc.ca\/\">EmergencyInfoBC<\/a> for official information during emergencies in B.C.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3 ways to get prepared today<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Emergency preparedness is for everyone. Taking the time to prepare ahead of a climate emergency, such as a wildfire or flood, can help address fears you and your loved ones may have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set aside an hour or so and follow these three tips to get started on your emergency preparedness journey. Being prepared will help you stay calm and focused during an emergency:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/safety\/emergency-management\/preparedbc\/know-your-hazards\" title=\"\">Know your hazards.<\/a> <\/strong>Identify which hazards you need to prepare for.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/safety\/emergency-management\/preparedbc\/make-your-plan\"><strong>Make an emergency plan.<\/strong><\/a> Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/emergencymanagement\/emergencyready\">online emergency ready planner<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/assets\/gov\/public-safety-and-emergency-services\/emergency-preparedness-response-recovery\/embc\/preparedbc\/preparedbc-guides\/preparedbc_household_plan.pdf\">PreparedBC fill-in-the blanks home emergency plan<\/a>. Reach out to friends, family and neighbours to stay connected and support each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Health\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/climatereadybc.gov.bc.ca\/pages\/health\">Climate Change and Health in British Columbia: From Risk to Resilience<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>report was recently released and has improved our understanding of climate-related health impacts on B.C.\u2019s populations and health system. As our climate continues to change, the deep connection between human health and the environment becomes increasingly clear. It is our shared responsibility to foster a healthy, sustainable, and climate-resilient B.C. Climate action can enhance the health and well-being of our communities while strengthening the resilience and sustainability of the health systems they rely on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/health\/managing-your-health\/mental-health-substance-use\/virtual-mental-health-supports\">resources available<\/a> for British Columbians who are experiencing anxiety, depression or other mental health challenges.
