{"id":55718,"date":"2025-05-02T08:15:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-02T15:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/ecc-dm-bulletin\/?post_type=article&#038;p=55718"},"modified":"2025-05-02T16:27:23","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T23:27:23","slug":"curriculum-updates-and-changes-for-2025-26-school-year","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/ecc-dm-bulletin\/article\/curriculum-updates-and-changes-for-2025-26-school-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Curriculum Updates for 2025\/26 School Year"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group hide-on-main\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"taxonomy-action_or_info wp-block-post-terms\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/ecc-dm-bulletin\/action_or_info\/for-info\/\" rel=\"tag\">For Information<\/a><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"taxonomy-release_date article-release-date wp-block-post-terms\"><span class=\"wp-block-post-terms__prefix\">Published <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/ecc-dm-bulletin\/release_date\/2025-05-02\/\" rel=\"tag\">Friday May 02 2025<\/a><\/div>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-post-title\">Curriculum Updates for 2025\/26 School Year<\/h1><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a reminder about recently announced updates to learning standards in the Social Studies 10 and Physical and Health Education 10 curricula that will take effect at the start of the new school year on July 1, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The updates to Social Studies 10 include specifically requiring learning about:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Holocaust and the concept of genocide<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Racial segregation and the destruction of Hogan&#8217;s Alley<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Internment of Japanese Canadians during World War II<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, there will be an expanded focus on existing learning about Residential Schools and other injustices towards First Peoples in BC and Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The updates to Physical and Health Education 10 include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Education partners and various community organizations have been informed of these updates and they have also been communicated to Superintendents via the BC School Superintendents Association (BCSSA).
