To support child care providers and families, there are programs available should a child care centre be impacted by flooding or any major emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n<!--noteaser-->\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group hide-on-main\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"taxonomy-action_or_info wp-block-post-terms\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/ecc-dm-bulletin\/action_or_info\/for-info\/\" rel=\"tag\">For Information<\/a><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"taxonomy-release_date article-release-date wp-block-post-terms\"><span class=\"wp-block-post-terms__prefix\">Published <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/ecc-dm-bulletin\/release_date\/2024-11-01\/\" rel=\"tag\">Friday November 01 2024<\/a><\/div>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-post-title\">Emergency Resources for Child Care Centres<\/h1><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, parts of the Lower Mainland and communities in BC have experienced significant flooding due to the atmospheric river weather event. To support child care providers and families, there are programs available should a child care centre be impacted by flooding or any major emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Child care facilities impacted by major emergencies may be eligible for assistance through the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/family-social-supports\/caring-for-young-children\/childcarebc-programs\/maintenance-fund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>ChildCareBC Maintenance Fund<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong> The ChildCareBC Maintenance Fund helps licensed child care facilities in emergency circumstances, defined as sudden and unexpected conditions that directly impact children\u2019s health and safety or may result in immediate facility closure. Please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/family-social-supports\/caring-for-young-children\/childcarebc-programs\/maintenance-fund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maintenance Fund web page<\/a> for more information or to apply. Providers can also contact the ministry for help by calling 1-888-338-6622 and selecting option 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/family-social-supports\/caring-for-young-children\/childcarebc-programs\/child-care-operating-funding\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Child Care Operating Funding (CCOF)<\/a> base funding may be paid when a facility is temporarily closed due to an emergency. To report an emergency closure and request funding, please email <a href=\"mailto:CCOF@gov.bc.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CCOF@gov.bc.ca<\/a><strong>.<\/strong> In the email, please include the facility name, facility ID (e.g., F\/G-XXXXX-XXXXX), closure date, (expected) reopen date, reasons for closure, and the type of funding being requested. For more information on your centre\u2019s eligibility or to report an emergency closure, providers can reach the ministry at 1-888-338-6622, selecting option 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a facility continues to charge parent fees and pay staff wages during a temporary closure, access to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/family-social-supports\/caring-for-young-children\/childcarebc-programs\/child-care-fee-reduction-initiative-provider-opt-in-status\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative<\/a> (CCFRI) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/family-social-supports\/caring-for-young-children\/childcarebc-programs\/wage-enhancement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Early Childhood Educator Wage Enhancement<\/a> (ECE-WE) may be available with ministry approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Providers participating in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/family-social-supports\/caring-for-young-children\/childcarebc-programs\/10-a-day-childcarebc-centres\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$10 a Day ChildCareBC<\/a> program will also continue to receive regular operational funding for up to 14 calendar days and may receive additional funding for longer periods during emergency closures. For more information or to report an emergency closure, $10 a Day ChildCareBC providers can reach the ministry at 1-888-338-6622, selecting option 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are supporting staff, families and children experiencing disruption or anxiety related to natural disasters such as flooding, the following resources are available:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transform-our-world.org\/files\/climate_anxiety_-_an_introduction_for_teachers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Climate Anxiety: An Introduction for Teachers<\/a>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nctsn.org\/what-is-child-trauma\/trauma-types\/disasters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Child Traumatic Stress Institute \u2013 Disasters<\/a>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.anxietycanada.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Anxiety Canada<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anxietycanada.com\/learn-about-anxiety\/anxiety-in-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Anxiety in Children<\/a>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/health\/managing-your-health\/mental-health-substance-use\/child-teen-mental-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Child &amp; Youth Mental Health<\/a>: provides voluntary mental health services designed to support children and youth who experience significant difficulties related to their thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
