Jennifer McCrea
Acting Deputy Minister of Education and Child Care

Hi all,

I hope that you have had a good week. As we move into election weekend you will notice an All Superintendent call next Friday morning to give us a chance to share what we know coming out of the election and next steps from government. A few things to highlight in this week’s bulletin including a reminder of the DM/Superintendents Meeting on November 21, 2024, at the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver. Registration is open until October 25, 2024. Registration is also open for a virtual day of professional learning curated and delivered by the Provincial Outreach Programs – more information is below. Please also read the updates on the 2024/2025 nominal roll and joint verification process.

Wishing you a lovely weekend,

Jennifer McCrea

Registration is now open for a virtual day of professional learning curated and delivered by the Provincial Outreach Programs (POPs) on October 25, 2024. Each POP will present on their “greatest hits”, i.e., domain knowledge, skills and strategies that are essential for specific groups of learners but also often useful for all students regardless of their unique profiles. To further support the Ministry of Education and Child Care’s K to 12 Literacy Supports initiative, the POPs will be offering sessions that focus on the many ways they support literacy development within and across their mandates. Reminder: Verify Certificate Status

A reminder that the teachers employed by your district must hold a valid BC teaching certificate. Please review the News & Notices in the Employers’ Area and check the list of suspensions. Certificate holders recently employed by you will be flagged. You can also use the Certificate Verification Tool to check their status. If you employ certificate holders whose certificates have been suspended for not paying the annual practice fee and late fee, you may want to encourage them to pay. If the fees are not received by the ministry by October 31, 2024, their teaching certificates will be cancelled. If they wish to teach in BC again, they will need to apply for a new teaching certificate.
