On October 7, government introduced amendments to the School Act to enable boards of education to directly offer a broader range of child care services on school property, and to fully recoup reasonable costs incurred by doing so. If passed, the amendments will allow boards to offer school-age child care year-round, like on school breaks, and to younger children in the community. Bill 27 – Miscellaneous Statutes Amendment Act (No. 2), 2025
Yesterday, government introduced amendments to the School Act that result in two changes to expropriation powers for boards of education. In alignment with current practice, the legislation requires approval of the Minister as a condition for a board of education to expropriate private land. In addition, the amendments provide the Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique (CSF) with expropriation power over private property – a power that is currently held by the other 59 boards of education.
