Jennifer McCrea
Acting Deputy Minister of Education and Child Care

Hi all,

Today is National Indigenous Veterans Day, acknowledging the brave contributions and sacrifices of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis, who served in Canada and around the world, in war and peacekeeping efforts. With Remembrance Day on Monday too, it’s a season for reflecting and paying tribute to veterans and their families, to those who never returned home, and to honour those who did – forever changed by their experiences. Please see flag half-masting notifications for the Province to recognize Indigenous Veterans Day and Remembrance Day, in case school districts wish to follow a similar approach.

Also this week, we are mourning and recognizing the passing of the Honourable Mazina Giizhik (“the One Who Speaks of Pictures in the Sky”) Murray Sinclair, O.C., Senator. His monumental contributions and impactful legacy will continue to guide us forward as we undertake the important work of Truth and Reconciliation in the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

In addition, we now know that a new cabinet will be sworn in on November 18, 2024, at Government House at Victoria, which will conclude interregnum and give us clarity on who our new minister will be.

Wishing you a meaningful weekend and Remembrance Day with friends and family.

Jennifer
