Changes to the School Act are now in effect, meaning school districts in B.C. can operate more kinds of child care that families need. This includes providing child care to children of all ages and during non-school days like winter, spring and summer breaks. School districts will also be able to recover reasonable costs to help keep child care programs sustainable, similar to how non-profit child care centers operate.

Hello, everyone. A short bulletin for you today as we head into the last weekend of November and the BCSTA academy.
In addition to the articles below, I also wanted to let you know that the School District Reporting Requirements calendar has moved to a new platform to better align with B.C. government standards. If you’ve bookmarked the link to the previous site, please update it to the link shown in School District Reporting Requirements section of this Bulletin.
I also want to share with you another change within government that was announced yesterday to all of us in the public service. Between January and April 2026, the BC Public Service will transition Ministry Human Resource services towards a new centralized model that shifts from each ministry having standalone teams, to a one-employer approach that provides consistent, adaptable and equitable human resource services across the B.C. government.
This isn’t a shift that we expect our K-12 partners to notice, but we wanted to make you aware, as it will impact the organizational structure of our ministry.

Due January 13: First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC) Youth Empowered Speakers Program Call for Applications
The Youth Empowered Speakers Program (YES) is for B.C. First Nations youth ages 18-35 living on- or off-reserve who want to become fluent in their First Nations language while pursuing a career as an Indigenous language teacher. To be eligible for program funding, proof of post-secondary program acceptance must be provided by June 26, 2026. The deadline to apply is January 13, 2026. See this poster for more details.

Discipline Outcomes
Discipline outcomes are posted to enhance the transparency of the processes and decisions made with respect to complaints and reports about educators. Recently, outcomes were posted about Kevin Alexander Sigaty, who agreed to a three-day suspension, and Adam Richard Macdonald, who agreed to the cancellation of his certificate and an eight-year ban on reapplying or being issued any authorization to teach.
