Hi everyone,
Please see below a few important updates including information on the School-Aged Child Care Survey. School districts will be provided with the data at an aggregate level to ensure anonymity of the responses. The level of breakdown will be determined by the number of responses in each school and/or school district. We’re also aware of some issues with an email that went out about the survey. Clarifying information should have gone to you and your ELCC Leads.
This bulletin also includes an important reminder about the annual notification for cancellation of teaching certificates and information on an upcoming analytics engagement and information session. A joint statement on safe, caring, inclusive schools was released today and can be found below under News Releases. Building an education system that is welcoming for all of B.C.’s K-12 students, staff, and families is a number one priority for our ministry, and we are united in this commitment with our provincial education partners.

Cancellation of Teaching Certificates
In line with Section 34 of the Teachers Act, employers are being notified that 2,506 teaching certificates were cancelled on November 1, 2023, because certificate holders did not pay the 2023/2024 annual practice fee by October 31, 2023. To ensure that the teachers you employ remain certified, please check their status using the Certificate Verification Tool and review the cancellation notice available in the Employers’ Area. If you have any questions, please email the Teacher Regulation Branch at trb.employers@gov.bc.ca or call 236-455-1872.

For Distribution – School-Aged Child Care Survey for Parents
The Ministry of Education and Child Care is conducting a parent survey to better understand the regional and provincial demand for school-aged child care. Schools with Kindergarten to Grade 7 students will be asked to distribute the survey to parents to help inform long-term planning and policy development for child care in B.C. Information and survey distribution instructions have been sent to principals and administrators at participating schools. For questions, contact ChildCareBC.Engagement@gov.bc.ca.

Additional Rapid Antigen Tests and Personal Protective Equipment Available to Order
Please be advised that school districts can order additional COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) through the PEAK Health Portal until December 22, 2023, or as long as surplus stock remains available. Place your orders as soon as possible as supplies are limited.
