Kaye Krishna
Deputy Minister of Education and Child Care

Hello everyone,

It’s been a busy but very fulfilling first week in my new role as Deputy Minister. Thank you for the warm welcome and the conversations at the All Superintendents Meeting yesterday.

I’m grateful that within my first few days in this new role, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with all of you, and meet with the BCSTA executive and membership while at the Trustee Academy today, alongside Minister Beare.

This week’s bulletin contains reminders to complete the District Early Learning and Child Care Lead Interim Report as well as the Feeding Futures Fund and Student and Family Affordability Fund financial report. And, if you didn’t have a chance to provide feedback on the Student Success website yesterday at the All Superintendents meeting, we’ve included a quick survey, as your insights help us keep the website relevant.

The ministry is also inviting K-12 teachers and students to participate in Careers Week. Led by Education and Employers Charity, UBC Geering Up and Outreach and SkilledTradesBC, the activities are designed to share information about career possibilities and provide links between competencies acquired at school and skills required in high-demand careers. Virtual spaces are limited so you’re encouraged to register early.

As Brad Baker mentioned during his presentation at the All Superintendents Meeting, Assistant Superintendent of Indigenous Education, Leona Prince, has started her series of meetings with District Indigenous Education Leads. If you could please encourage your leads to prioritize these calls that would be greatly appreciated.

Finally, I’d like to extend my congratulations to Patricia Gartland (SD 43) and Matthew Monkman (SD 92), who are set to retire in the coming days. Thank you for all of your contributions to the public education system in BC over your many years of dedicated service. I know you will be greatly missed.

Thanks again for the great initial discussions this week and I look forward to our work together over the coming weeks, months and years.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Kaye
