Hi, everyone.

While it’s a short week, there is no shortage of events and updates! Please see information below on the 2024 FESL templates (with pre-populated data for your convenience) as well as information on how to register for the August Learning First Peoples Summer Institute put on by FNESC. I’d also like to remind you of my email to Superintendents earlier this week about the Province’s intention to pursue adding cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training as a mandatory lesson in secondary schools. CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) programs are established in 90% of public secondary schools and we’re working towards ensuring every student receives training. Policy discussions with rightsholders and sector partners will begin in Fall 2024.

2024 Enhancing Student Learning Report Templates

The following revised 2024 Enhancing Student Learning Report templates are now available:
- Completing the 2024 Enhancing Student Learning Report (which outlines how to complete and submit the final report) and Section A – Pre-Populated Data Template (which contains district data required by the Enhancing Student Learning Reporting Order) have been posted to your district’s SharePoint site.
- Section B – Guiding Questions and Section C – District Self-Assessment have been uploaded to the Framework website under Enhancing Student Learning Report. These are optional supporting documents to assist your district with its report.

Analytics Engagement and Information Sharing Session

Please join us May 30 at 3:10 pm PT for the seventh Analytics Engagement and Information Sharing Session of the 2023/24 school year for an overview of the Graduation Assessments Power BI report. See the poster for more information and the registration link. The recording for this session will be available on the BC K-12 Education Data Portal, under the Communications tab. Management Representation Letters

Consistent with prior years, the Office of the Comptroller General requires that each crown corporation, agency, and SUCH sector entity supply a Management Representation Letter effective June 7, 2024. The purpose of this letter is to provide the Office of the Comptroller General with assurance that they may rely on the school district’s system of internal controls to ensure accuracy and completeness of the financial information included in their audited financial statements and provided in the GRE reporting at March 31, 2024.

Register for the Learning First Peoples Summer Institute

Registration is now open until August 19 for the Learning First Peoples Summer Institute August 27-29 in downtown Vancouver. Coordinated by the First Nations Education Steering Committee and First Nations Schools Association, the institute is designed to support educators to bring quality, authentic First Peoples teaching and learning into B.C. classrooms.

The Ministry of Education and Child Care is seeking to collaborate with administrators from French Immersion programs through the establishment of a French Immersion Regional Network. The network will include representatives from different regions of the province. Further details can be found on the French Education Branch web page. Recently, a summary of an outcome was posted about a teacher whose certificate was cancelled. The outcome has been anonymized to protect the identity of students who were harmed, abused, or exploited by the teacher.
