Announcement of New Online Learning Policy, Interim Procedures, and Accountability and Quality Assurance in B.C

The Ministry of Education and Child Care has developed a new Online Learning Policy and Interim Procedures Guide, effective July 1, 2023. The new Accountability and Quality Assurance (AQA) document has also been released and is set to launch in the 2024/25 school year. Together, these documents are part of the new online learning model to maximize equitable access to quality K-12 online learning experiences for all students in British Columbia. Administration of Seizure Rescue Medications for the 2023/24 School Year

Nursing Support Services (NSS) will continue to train non-medical school staff in seizure rescue medications for the2023/24 school year. There are no changes to access this training, and parents/guardians will still be responsible for completing a Seizure Action Plan regarding their child’s care needs and medications. Resources and information to assist families and schools are available on the NSS website.

Youth in Manufacturing Work Experience and Training Opportunity

Youth in Manufacturing Work Experience and Training Opportunity

B.C. secondary school students and recent graduates will soon have access to paid work placements through the new Youth in Manufacturing Initiative. Starting in fall 2023, this initiative will provide funding for as many as 500 youth work placements in many of B.C.’s diverse manufacturing industries. In addition to paid work experience and industry-recognized training, youth will be able to receive credits toward secondary school graduation and apprenticeship certification. Interested students and educators can register online for more information.

Tuition Waiver Program for Former Youth in Care

Tuition Waiver Program for Former Youth in Care

The Provincial Tuition Waiver Program is available to former youth in care studying full- or part-time at the undergraduate level at a BC public post-secondary institution, the Native Education College, or one of 10 union trades training institutes. Effective August 1st, program changes will include removing the age criteria, expanding eligibility, and introducing a new annual $3,500 grant to cover additional education costs. More information is available in this Provincial Tuition Waiver Program handout.
