Hello everyone.
And just like that…it’s back to school time!
A few quick reminders for you – fiscal year-end financial reporting is due at the end of the calendar year as well as resources on protecting your school communities from measles and high temperatures as summer winds down. In this week’s Bulletin you will also find new resources and training opportunities related to Holocaust education, plus information about the ELCC Community of Practice sessions for the 2025-26 school year.

Preparing for Late Summer Heat
BC may continue to experience high temperatures as students and staff return to school, which can be an added stressor for children and families during a time of change. For information on actions schools can take during heat events, visit the Preparing for Heat Events section of the Ministry of Education and Child Care’s Safe and healthy schools website or check with your health authority for guidance.

BC Centre for Disease Control Measles Guidance for K–12 Schools
The BCCDC has developed Measles Guidance for K–12 Schools. This resource supplements the Public Health Communicable Disease Guidance for K–12 Schools and provides additional guidance for educators, administrators and support staff at public and independent schools related to preventing the spread of measles within the school setting.

New Holocaust Education Resource and Professional Learning Opportunities
The Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre (VHEC) has released a new, bilingual, online teaching resource that may be useful for Social Studies 10 teachers as they prepare to implement the new learning standard about the Holocaust. Fragments in Focus: A History of the Holocaust features over 160 original items from the VHEC collection that once belonged to Holocaust survivors, eyewitnesses and historians in British Columbia. In addition to these primary sources, Fragments in Focus includes background information, integrated learning activities and structured teaching supports.
The VHEC is also offering professional learning sessions to support educators as they implement the new Holocaust learning standard in the Social Studies 10 curriculum. Upcoming sessions covering the Fragments website and other, new VHEC teaching resources are being held in the following locations:

- Burnaby (BCSSTA Conference), Oct 24
- Kelowna, Oct 24
- Prince George, Nov 10
- Vancouver, Nov 21
- Nanaimo, Dec 5

The Ministry of Education and Child Care has announced the dates for this school year’s District ELCC Lead Community of Practice sessions. These virtual gatherings are an opportunity to network across districts, learn and explore new ideas and solutions in early learning and child care. Please mark your calendars with the dates below.
