Christina Zacharuk
Deputy Minister of Education and Child Care

Hi, everyone. I look forward to connecting next week at the BC School Superintendents Association (BCSSA) Summer Leadership Gathering to kick off the 2023/24 school year. In advance of the meeting, please find a few updates this week, including: a continuation of the procurement process for expertise and knowledge to support the Framework for Student Learning (FESL) for the coming year; a reminder to send in property and asset records; and results from a recent BC Teachers’ Council (BCTC) survey that will provide additional information for the sector-wide workforce strategy development. Also, the call for nominations is open for the Province’s Medal of Good Citizenship, recognizing people who have made outstanding contributions to their communities. I invite you to nominate someone who has gone above and beyond for this prestigious award.

Have a great weekend and see you next week.

Christina

Results from the BC Teachers’ Council Survey for New Teachers

In 2021, the BCTC launched a survey for certified educators who received their BC teaching certificates between 2015 and 2020 to find out about their experience as they transitioned from their program into the teaching profession. The survey responses have now been compiled, and recommendations have been made in various areas. The ministry will be using these survey insights to help inform the development of a comprehensive K-12 workforce strategy in collaboration with sector partners to collectively support and sustain a stable, qualified, and engaged K-12 workforce.
