The Province, in partnership with the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) and the Indigenous Adult and Higher Learning Association (IAHLA), is supporting the development of First Nations-led community-based teacher-education programs to address the significant shortage of First Nations teachers in the province. Funded by the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, these programs will greatly increase the recruitment and retention of First Nations teachers in BC’s K-12 system. This is an important step in our government’s commitment to meaningful reconciliation, to advancing First Nations self-determination throughout B.C., and to building a more inclusive education system in our province. More details will be shared on our Oct 7 All Superintendents call.
