On Tuesday, July 16, British Columbia’s Office of the Representative for Children and Youth (RCY) released the Don’t Look Away – How one boy’s story has the power to shift a system of care for children and youth report. This report, available on the RCY website, includes an investigative section and a systemic review with recommendations to strengthen our province’s entire system of supports for vulnerable children, youth, and families. As an initial response to the review, government announced a new direction for vulnerable children and families which focuses on coordination across ministries to reduce gaps and improve child safety, by focusing on prevention, care, and overall well-being of families.
