The ministry has a secondment opportunity as a School District Liaison with the MyEducation BC team. This is a full-time secondment to June 30, 2025, with an option to extend an additional 12 months.
About MyEducation BC
MyEducation BC is the common student information service used by all 60 B.C. public school districts, more than 180 B.C. independent schools, and in the Yukon to provide secure, consistent, and reliable access to a single educational record for students in B.C. and the Yukon.
Schools use MyEducation BC to manage student enrolment, demographics, programs, courses, schedules, attendance, achievement, individual education plans, and more. MyEducation BC is also used to track enrolment and participation of early learners registered in StrongStart programs. Students and parents can access their student records and collaborate with teachers through a web-based portal.
School districts participate in a Service Management Council that promotes school district cooperation and collaboration common standards and practices, guides continuous service improvement, and works to improve data quality.
Applicants must ensure they have permission from their school district prior to submitting an Expression of Interest.
Your Role as School District Liaison
The School District Liaison is an integral member of the MyEducation BC team. The liaison augments the team’s capacity, relationships, and intelligence with knowledge and experience as an educator and educational administrator.
The School District Liaison contributes directly to achieving MyEducation BC goals, including:
- A shared SIS that supports student learning and local operational requirements.
- Improved data quality by establishing common standards and business practices.
- Promoting a culture of collaboration.
- Developing an effective working relationship to the mutual benefit of all parties and school districts.
The School District Liaison builds and fosters effective working relationships with school district, Ministry of Education and Child Care, and service provider staff members. The School District Liaison gathers and provides advice from the field to inform ministry policy, inform service improvement, and promote school district collaboration. The School District Liaison’s responsibilities include:
- Create and foster productive, collaborative working relationships with and among staff members in school districts, service providers, and the Ministry of Education and Child Care to the mutual benefit of all parties.
- Facilitate SIS governance committees, issue resolution and escalation, decision making, and communication to promote a culture of collaboration among school districts.
- Facilitate update and maintenance of the SIS standards manual, working in collaboration with school districts and SIS governance committees to improve data quality by establishing common standards and business practices.
- Facilitate cooperation among school authorities and school staff to use the common SIS efficiently and effectively to administer school, district, and ministry policy.
- Provide prioritization and implementation advice, recommendations, and support to the MyEducation BC team and school districts.
- Communicate proposed changes to school districts, independent schools, and the Yukon and assist them in understanding the opportunities within MyEducation BC to support student learning and local operational requirements.
- Provide consulting information and advice to ministry staff for the preparation of ministry plans and policy documents.
- Facilitate and/or participate in defining service requirements and user testing.
- Collaborate with school districts and ministry staff regarding policy and business process changes and build consensus for proposed solutions.
- Consult various divisions in the Ministry of Education and Child Care and school-based project teams to ensure the SIS supports new curriculum, assessment, and reporting models and policies.
- Undertake assigned projects for implementation of new services and functionality.
- Ensure process standards and practices meet legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Assist school district support teams and the service provider with the development of training and communication materials.
- Assist school district support teams and the service provider with troubleshooting, problem definition, and resolution of school district issues.
Location of the Opportunity
Candidates will not be required to work within Victoria. Travel to Victoria and various districts is required in this role. The ministry will reimburse the secondee directly for travel expenses.
Skills and experience expectations
- Recent experience as a district educational leader.
- Broad knowledge of school and district organizational structures, operational policy, and procedures.
- Experience using MyEducation BC to administer ministry policy in school and district effectively and efficiently.
- Experience leading and facilitating decision-making with education professionals.
