The Ministry of Education and Child Care is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from school districts for the development of dual credit programs for First Nation students to explore careers in K–12 teaching. The goal of this initiative is to support more First Nation students to consider teaching as a career path and, ultimately, help to increase the number of First Nation teachers in the K–12 education system. Applications for this EOI must be developed and implemented in partnership with one or more local First Nations and one or more post-secondary institutions.
Applications, including proposed budget and letters of support from First Nation partners, are due by 4 pm on January 30, 2026. Visit the Dual Credit web page to access the application package including instructions and the application form.
Questions can be sent to workforce.development@gov.bc.ca or register for a virtual Q&A session on October 21 (9-10:30 am) or October 22 (1-2:30 pm).
This initiative is in alignment with Action 4.02 of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act Action Plan and was co-developed through a joint working group with the ministry, the First Nations Education Steering Committee, the Indigenous Adult and Higher Learning Association, and the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills to support the training, recruitment and retention of First Nation teachers.
