School districts are invited to attend virtual regional information sessions in April and May that will highlight recent provincial work that makes it easier to operate and expand school age care on school grounds. Sessions are based on health authority regions. Representatives from each health authority will be invited to join their respective sessions.
The virtual sessions will include:
- A new Director of Licensing Standard of Practice (DOLSOP) to clarify licensing requirements for school age child care programs that operate on school grounds and to address inconsistencies in licensing practices throughout B.C. You can access the new DOLSOP and the supporting FAQs on the Ministry of Health website.
- A review of the new provincial information bulletin clarifying how the B.C. Building Code and B.C. Fire Code apply when school age care on school grounds programs are added or expanded in school buildings.
- Guidance for school districts to support the expansion of child care on school grounds.
- Recently announced funding to support the creation of school age care spaces on school grounds through minor capital projects, Early Learning and Child Care Leads capacity funding and other initiatives.
To register for a session, please complete this short registration survey before April 16, 2026.
