Passing of Former Premier John Horgan

After a courageous battle against cancer, former BC Premier John Horgan died in Victoria this morning at age 65. Please see this statement from Premier David Eby on Mr. Horgan’s passing.

On a personal note, I had the privilege to work alongside Premier Horgan starting my first day in government and throughout his time in and leading the public service. He was never too busy to stop a meeting and say hello and encourage the public service to “keep up the good work.”

The BC Government will be working with Mr. Horgan’s family and the office of protocol to announce the timing of services to mark his passing.

Pursuant to British Columbia’s policy on half-masting, the Canadian flag at the Parliament Buildings in Victoria will be lowered to half-mast in Mr. Horgan’s honour. The direction of the Province on half-masting protocols is provided in case school districts wish to follow a similar approach. Where a Canadian flag and a British Columbia flag fly near to one other, both flags should be lowered to half-mast.
