As part of the K–12 Literacy Supports Initiative, Professional Learning Grants were awarded to school districts to support them in providing professional learning on evidence-based approaches to literacy development to teachers and support staff, and literacy information and resources to parents and caregivers. The grant conditions stipulate that school districts participate in Community of Practice meetings up to three times per school year from 2024/25 to 2026/27. The K–12 Literacy Supports Community of Practice aims to promote knowledge-sharing amongst school districts and provide an opportunity to discuss successes, challenges, and opportunities in relation to K–12 literacy development.
The ministry will be hosting the first K–12 Literacy Supports Community of Practice meeting on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 1:00-2:30pm PDT. Districts are requested to register their school district’s literacy lead as a participant. Each district may register up to one additional representative as an optional participant. Participant registration must be completed through the K–12 Literacy Supports Community of Practice registration form.
