Impacts to Child Care Programs from the Canada Post Strike

Due to the Canada Post labour disruption, mail services were interrupted as of Friday, November 15, 2024, and will impact ChildCareBC programs. As a result, mail is not being sent out currently, and there is no information on when and how mail services will resume.

Child care providers and families who receive mailed cheques will be impacted. There is no impact on direct deposit payments and funding recipients are encouraged to sign up for direct deposit to minimize delays in receiving funds.

Child Care Operating Funding (CCOF) providers who receive cheques for CCOF base funding, fee reductions for families, Affordable Child Care Benefit payments or the Early Childhood Educator Wage Enhancement, as well as $10 a Day ChildCareBC program providers, are encouraged to submit a direct deposit form to ccdda@gov.bc.ca to minimize delays in receiving funds.

Funding recipients who receive cheques through the New Spaces Fund are encouraged to register for direct deposit online through PayBC using PayBC Reference No. 10024 and their invoice number.

Funding recipients who receive cheques through Start-up Grants or the Maintenance Fund are encouraged to submit a direct deposit form to cccf@gov.bc.ca to minimize delays in receiving funds.

Certified Early Childhood Educators (ECE) and applicants for certification may experience delays in processing applications and receiving issued certificates due to the Canada Post strike. The Canada Post strike may impact renewal for a small number of currently practicing ECEs. Requests for copies of a certificate can be made to the ECE Registry at ECERegistry@gov.bc.ca and will be sent to the registrant’s email address on file.

The ECE Registry does not have the ability to exempt certification requirements. If a child care provider is concerned, they are encouraged to contact their licensing officer to discuss options if a certificate has not been received for an ECE at their facility.

Child care providers, families and ECEs can contact the Child Care Service Centre at 1-888-338-6622 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with any questions or for support in enrolling in electronic direct deposit.
