As there has been an increase in questions surrounding the equivalency of English First Peoples 12 and English Studies 12, the ministry would like to confirm that both courses meet the Language Arts Grade 12 graduation requirement. Students must take at least one of these courses; all other English Grade 12 courses count towards elective credit only and do not meet the graduation requirement.
Students who have completed English First Peoples 12 will also fulfil the Indigenous-focused graduation requirement. For further information, please visit the B.C. Curriculum website or review the Graduation Program and Policy Guide, which lists all courses that are eligible to meet each graduation requirement, including the Language Arts 12 requirement (see page 18).
