Early Childhood Educator Registry to Lift Hold for Post-Secondary Institution Program Recognition

In March 2017, a hold was placed on new applications for proposed Early Childhood Educator (ECE) programs as the ministry updated the B.C. Child Care Sector Occupational Competencies. Starting July 10, the Registry lifted the hold using a two-phased approach.

  • Phase One introduces screening criteria to evaluate waitlisted parties’ eligibility to deliver ECE post-secondary programming. Waitlisted parties who do not meet the initial screening criteria will be removed from the waitlist. Those that meet the initial screening criteria will proceed to phase two.
  • Phase Two introduces a prioritization framework to guide the Registry in selecting post-secondary program applications from remaining parties.

The Registry will contact successful parties in the coming weeks. Those who move forward to phase two will receive more information about the prioritization framework for recognition in summer 2025. Applicants will be reviewed and assessed, and successful parties will be supported through the process.

New parties not on the waitlist who meet the phase one screening criteria and who would like to be considered for ECE program recognition can contact the Registry to express their interest. Parties who wish to voluntarily withdraw, or who have questions about the decision on their file, can also contact the Registry at 1-888-338-6622 (Option 3) or via email at ECERegistry.Programs@gov.bc.ca
