British Columbia Tripartite Education Agreement (BCTEA) 2024/25 Joint First Nation Student Transportation Plan – due May 31

A reminder that BCTEA 2024/25 Joint First Nation Student Transportation Plans (Joint Plans) and BCTEA 2023/24 Revenue and Spending Reports (Reports) are due by May 31.

Background

The BC Tripartite Education Agreement: Supporting First Nation Student Success (“BCTEA”) between the Province of British Columbia (B.C.), FNESC, and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) (collectively the “Parties”) sets the foundation for further growth and changes to support the enhancement of the B.C. public education system. As a component of BCTEA, the Parties agreed to develop and implement effective measures to address existing and future issues arising from the transportation of First Nation Students to B.C. public schools.

Since 2018/19, provincial boards of education and First Nations have been asked to work together to determine First Nation Student transportation needs and to co-develop Joint First Nation Student Transportation Plans (“Joint Plans”), informed by guiding principles and criteria established by the BCTEA Parties.

The 2023/24 Report and the 2024/25 Joint Plan and other information (e.g., Transportation Fund Planning, Policy and Procedures Guide 2024/25 School Year) can be accessed on both the Ministry of Education and Child Care and the FNESC websites. Templates were also shared by email to school districts at the end of April.
