Category 1 campfires remain permitted in the Campbell River Forest District, North Island Central Coast Forest District, Haida Gwaii Forest District and Sunshine Coast Forest District. See the below map for more detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Category 2 and Category 3 fire prohibitions will remain in place throughout the Coastal Fire Centre. This prohibition is being modified to help reduce human-caused wildfires and for public safety in areas where weather conditions have changed. This prohibition will be in place until October 31, 2026, or until the order is rescinded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"791\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/07\/cofc-fire-ban-map-1024x791.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29778\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/07\/cofc-fire-ban-map-1024x791.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/07\/cofc-fire-ban-map-300x232.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/07\/cofc-fire-ban-map-768x593.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/07\/cofc-fire-ban-map-1536x1187.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/07\/cofc-fire-ban-map.jpg 1553w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone choosing to light a <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/safety\/wildfire-status\/prevention\/fire-bans-and-restrictions\/open-burning?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=CoFC-IB-Category-1-campfires-permitted-across-Coastal-Fire-C&amp;utm_source=Envoke-SYSTEM_ALL_CONTACTS&amp;utm_term=CoFC-IB-Category-1-campfires-permitted-across-Coastal-Fire-C#Cat1\">Category 1<\/a> campfire in permitted areas must do so responsibly and in accordance with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca\/civix\/document\/id\/complete\/statreg\/11_38_2005?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=CoFC-IB-Category-1-campfires-permitted-across-Coastal-Fire-C&amp;utm_source=Envoke-SYSTEM_ALL_CONTACTS&amp;utm_term=CoFC-IB-Category-1-campfires-permitted-across-Coastal-Fire-C#section20\">Section 20 of the <em>Wildfire Regulation<\/em><\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Do not burn in windy conditions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Establish and maintain a fuel break<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not leave the fire unattended<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure the fire is fully extinguished before leaving the area<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carry out fire control immediately and\/or report the fire if it spreads beyond the established fuel break<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/safety\/wildfire-status\/prevention\/fire-bans-and-restrictions\/open-burning?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=CoFC-IB-Category-1-campfires-permitted-across-Coastal-Fire-C&amp;utm_source=Envoke-SYSTEM_ALL_CONTACTS&amp;utm_term=CoFC-IB-Category-1-campfires-permitted-across-Coastal-Fire-C#Cat2\">Category 2<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/safety\/wildfire-status\/prevention\/fire-bans-and-restrictions\/open-burning?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=CoFC-IB-Category-1-campfires-permitted-across-Coastal-Fire-C&amp;utm_source=Envoke-SYSTEM_ALL_CONTACTS&amp;utm_term=CoFC-IB-Category-1-campfires-permitted-across-Coastal-Fire-C#Cat3\">Category 3<\/a> open fires remain prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre&#8217;s jurisdiction in addition to the following activities and equipment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fireworks (<em>Fireworks Act<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Binary exploding targets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Controlled air incinerators<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Air curtain burners<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carbonizers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These prohibitions apply to all areas within the Coastal Fire Centre that are <strong>outside<\/strong> of municipal boundaries. Municipalities may follow BC Wildfire Service prohibitions or may impose different prohibitions based on conditions in their local area. If you are in a municipality, be sure to check if local prohibitions are in place. If you are within a regional district or improvement district, this prohibition applies as well as any local prohibition issued by the local authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This prohibition also applies to the following types of land <strong>within<\/strong> municipal boundaries:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Parks, conservancies and recreation areas (<em>Park Act<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recreation sites, recreation trails, interpretive forest sites and trail-based recreation areas (<em>Forest and Range Practices Act<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ecological reserves (<em>Ecological Reserve Act<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wildlife management areas (<em>Wildlife Act<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Private managed forest land (<em>Private Managed Forest Land Act<\/em>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>An updated map of this prohibition area will be issued soon.
