Fort Nelson \u2013 The BC Wildfire Service and Northern Rockies Fire Rescue will be conducting a prescribed burn project consisting of two burn units, covering a combined area of approximately twenty hectares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first unit is 17 hectares and is located south of the Alaska Highway, east of Cordova Way. The second is three hectares, located northeast of the Northern Rockies Regional Airport, near the Fort Nelson Motocross Track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While the burn is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, the exact timing will depend on weather and site conditions. Crews may begin preparations on Monday, May 11, if conditions are suitable. The preparations involve burning fuel around the perimeter of the burn units to prevent spread beyond the established boundary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Smoke may be visible in Fort Nelson and to motorists travelling along Highway 97.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each burn is guided by a detailed burn plan that defines objectives and outlines key requirements, including weather and fuel conditions, personnel and equipment needs, mitigation measures, and post-fire monitoring.
