{"id":28887,"date":"2026-04-23T15:11:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T22:11:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/?p=28887"},"modified":"2026-04-23T15:11:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T22:11:15","slug":"prescribed-burn-planned-near-the-yunesitin-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/prescribed-burn-planned-near-the-yunesitin-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Prescribed burn planned near the Yunesit&#8217;in community"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>YUNESIT\u2019IN \u2013 The Yunesit\u2019in Government, in partnership with BC Wildfire Service, will be conducting a prescribed burn south of the Stone 1A IR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When and where<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Burning will begin as early as Monday, April 27, continuing periodically until May 10.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The prescribed burn will cover approximately 35 hectares in two treatment units south of the Yunesit&#8217;in community, bordering the south side of the Milton Creek Road.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"621\" height=\"425\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/04\/image-8.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28897\" style=\"width:839px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/04\/image-8.png 621w, https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/04\/image-8-300x205.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 621px) 100vw, 621px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to expect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Smoke and flames will be visible to the Yunesit&#8217;in community, surrounding residents and motorists on Milton Creek Road.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crews will ignite ground fuels to remove combustible materials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ignitions will only proceed with favorable weather and atmospheric venting, allowing smoke to clear quickly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personnel will remain on site until there is no risk of the fire spreading beyond the perimeter and return daily until the fire is out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Smoke from within the perimeter of the burn may be visible up to 72 hours after ignition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sub>These YouTube videos explain the benefits of prescribed burning and showcase the process and some of the work that goes into planning Prescribed Burns.
