FRASER LAKE \u2013 The BC Wildfire Service in cooperation with Fraser Lake Fire Department will be conducting a prescribed burn of up to 11.5 hectares <\/strong>directly east of Fraser Lake. The BC Wildfire Service is collaborating with Village of Fraser Lake, Mouse Mountain Elementary School and Ministry of Transport and Transit on this planned burn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smoke will be highly visible from Fraser Lake and surrounding areas, and to motorists travelling along Highway 16 between Fort Fraser and Endako. Signage will be placed along the roadway to notify motorists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key goal: <\/strong>Wildfire risk reduction in an area that is heavily used for recreation, cross-training with Fraser Lake fire Department, habitat improvement in the target areas and educational opportunities for Mouse Mountain Elementary School students.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The burn may take place between mid-April and mid-May<\/strong> depending on suitable conditions. This project has been carefully planned and will only go ahead at the right time and under the right conditions to ensure community and staff safety.\u202f\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trails between the southern foot of Mouse Mountain and BC-16 will be used as access for managing the burn. These trails will be closed intermittently throughout the burn. Once fires are extinguished and danger trees are felled, public access will be restored. Please respect trail closure signage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fire is a normal and natural process in many of B.C.\u2019s ecosystems. The BC Wildfire Service works regularly with a range of partners to undertake fuel management activities (including the use of controlled burns), to help reduce the severity of future wildfires and related threats to communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
