{"id":28253,"date":"2026-04-07T10:11:44","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T17:11:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/?p=28253"},"modified":"2026-04-07T10:11:44","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T17:11:44","slug":"prescribed-burn-planned-near-white-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/prescribed-burn-planned-near-white-road\/","title":{"rendered":"Prescribed burn planned near White Road"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>WILLIAMS LAKE \u2013 The BC Wildfire Service, with the support of the Williams Lake Fire Department, will conduct a prescribed burn near White Road in an effort to reduce wildfire risks in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When and where<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Burning is expected to begin as early as <strong>Thursday April 9,<\/strong> and may continue periodically until <strong>April 24<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The prescribed burn will take place south of Williams Lake on <strong>approximately 20 hectares of land adjacent to White Road<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"698\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/04\/White-Road-Rx-burn_2026-1024x698.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/04\/White-Road-Rx-burn_2026-1024x698.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/04\/White-Road-Rx-burn_2026-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/04\/White-Road-Rx-burn_2026-768x523.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/04\/White-Road-Rx-burn_2026.jpg 1352w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to expect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Smoke and flames will be visible from Williams Lake, Williams Lake First Nation, Coyote Rock Golf Course and to motorists on Highway 97<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crews will ignite ground fuels to remove combustible materials to mimic a low-intensity wildland fire<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ignitions will only proceed with favourable weather and atmospheric venting allowing smoke to clear quickly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While ignition is underway, traffic control will be onsite to ensure the safety of public and firefighters. Short delays may occur<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personnel will remain onsite into the evening, staying onsite until there is no risk of the fire spreading beyond the perimeter and returning daily until the fire is out<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Smoke from within the perimeter of the burn may be visible up to 72 hours after ignition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These YouTube videos explain the benefits of prescribed burning and showcase the process and some of the work that goes into planning Prescribed Burns.
