{"id":28001,"date":"2026-03-24T13:17:43","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T20:17:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/?p=28001"},"modified":"2026-03-25T15:58:55","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T22:58:55","slug":"prescribed-burn-planned-along-highway-20-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/prescribed-burn-planned-along-highway-20-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Prescribed burn planned along Highway 20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>ALEXIS CREEK \u2013 The BC Wildfire Service, in collaboration with the Tsilhqot\u2019in Nation communities, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, BC Parks, Cariboo Chilcotin Natural Resource District and BC Hydro, will be conducting a series of prescribed burns along Highway 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When and where<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Burning is expected to begin as early as Friday, March 27 and may continue periodically until June 1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The prescribed burns will take place on approximately 20 hectares of land between Hanceville and Chilanko Forks, adjacent to Highway 20<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ignitions will only proceed if conditions are safe, with favorable weather and atmospheric venting allowing smoke to clear quickly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"621\" height=\"425\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/03\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28006\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/03\/image.png 621w, https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/786\/2026\/03\/image-300x205.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 621px) 100vw, 621px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to expect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Smoke and flames will be visible from Riske Creek, Tl&#8217;esqox, T\u015dideldel, Yunesit\u2019in, T\u2019letinqox, Alexis Creek, Highway 20 and surrounding areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crews will ignite ground fuels to remove combustible materials and mimic a naturally occurring wildland fire<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While burning is underway, traffic control will be on-site to ensure the safety of public and firefighters, short delays may occur<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Firefighters will closely monitor the fire activity at all times during the burn<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personnel will remain on-site into the evening to ensure the burns are fully extinguished at the end of each day and will only leave once there is no risk of the fire spreading<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Smoke from within the perimeter of the burn may be visible up to 72 hours after ignition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The following YouTube videos explain the benefits of prescribed burning and showcase the process and some of the work that goes into planning Prescribed Burns.
