{"id":27337,"date":"2025-11-18T11:07:43","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T19:07:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/?p=27337"},"modified":"2026-01-08T10:15:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T18:15:13","slug":"wildfire-risk-reduction-project-planned-near-sheridan-lake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/wildfire-risk-reduction-project-planned-near-sheridan-lake\/","title":{"rendered":"Wildfire Risk Reduction project planned near Sheridan Lake"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>100 MILE HOUSE \u2013 The 100 Mile House Natural Resource District will be conducting a wildfire risk reduction and fuel abatement project on the north shore of Sheridan Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When and where<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Work on this project may start as early as November 20, 2025, and continue into next year, until January 20, 2026.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The project covers an area of approximately three hectares adjacent to the Loon Bay Resort and Sheridan Lake day use area south of Highway 24.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to expect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contractors will be using chainsaws and hand tools to delimb downed trees. Firewood quality wood will be cut into usable sized logs for public use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Small machinery will be used to assist in the creation of piles no larger two metres by three metres.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using hand torches, crews will ignite piles under favourable conditions and will closely monitor all fire activity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Burning may occur over multiple days, as weather and site conditions allow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personnel will remain on-site each day to ensure fires are controlled and will only leave once the fires have safely burned down and no longer pose a risk of spreading.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fires will continue to be monitored and extinguished once burning is complete.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Smoke and flames will be visible to surrounding communities and to motorists on Highway 24.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objectives of this Wildfire Risk Reduction project<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reduce wildfire risk in the Sheridan Lake area by removing fuel and debris from public use areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide bucked logs to the public for firewood.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Learn more<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fire is a natural process in many of B.C.\u2019s ecosystems.
