The Cariboo Fire Centre recognizes that members of the community enjoy having campfires and so takes any decision to implement a campfire ban seriously. If you are in a municipality, be sure to check if local prohibitions are in place. If you are within a regional district or improvement district, this prohibition applies as well as any local prohibition issued by the regional district or improvement district. BC Parks follows BC Wildfire Service prohibitions.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This prohibition applies to all areas in the Fire Centre that are outside of municipal boundaries. In addition, this prohibition applies to the following types of land within municipal boundaries:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Parks, conservancies and recreation areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recreation sites, recreation trails, interpretive forest sites and trail-based recreation areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ecological reserves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wildlife management areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Private managed forest land<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is not prohibited<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This prohibition does not include the use of outdoor stove. As per the <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/safety\/wildfire-status\/about-bcws\/governance\/legislation-regulations?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=Information-Bulletin%3A-Category-1-campfire-prohibition-extend&amp;utm_source=Envoke-IB---All-Zones&amp;utm_term=Information-Bulletin%3A-Category-1-campfire-prohibition-extend\">Wildfire Regulation<\/a>, an outdoor stove is a CSA-rated or ULC-rated device used outdoors for cooking, heat or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel or gaseous fuel, and has a flame height that is less than 15 cm tall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<p><strong>Contributing Factors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Multiple additional factors are taken into consideration when assessing wildfire hazards and implementing open fire prohibitions, including a region\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/safety\/wildfire-status\/prepare\/weather-fire-danger\/fire-weather\/fire-weather-index-system?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=Information-Bulletin%3A-Category-1-campfire-prohibition-extend&amp;utm_source=Envoke-IB---All-Zones&amp;utm_term=Information-Bulletin%3A-Category-1-campfire-prohibition-extend#BUI\">Buildup Index<\/a> (BUI). The BUI allows the province\u2019s six Fire Centres to follow a consistent and scientific process for evaluating the need for campfire prohibitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also consider the following factors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Drought conditions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Current and forecasted weather<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Predicted wildfire behavior<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Firefighting resource availability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Science Behind Open Fire Prohibitions\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lgfuqwFRACY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Penalties<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Anyone found in contravention of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/safety\/wildfire-status\/prevention\/fire-bans-and-restrictions\/open-burning?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=Information-Bulletin%3A-Category-1-campfire-prohibition-extend&amp;utm_source=Envoke-IB---All-Zones&amp;utm_term=Information-Bulletin%3A-Category-1-campfire-prohibition-extend\">open fire<\/a> prohibition may be issued a ticket for $1,150, required to pay an administrative penalty of $10,000, or, if convicted in court, fined up to $100,000 and\/or sentenced for up to one year in jail.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your fire causes or contributes to a wildfire, you may be fined up to $1 million and\/or sentenced to up to 3 years in jail, as well as be responsible for all firefighting and associated costs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reporting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To report a wildfire dial *5555 on a cell phone or call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Da2Vp0uK_fpE%26utm_medium%3Demail%26utm_campaign%3D25-Rx-Burn-Central---Westridge%26utm_source%3DEnvoke-IB---Central-Zone%26utm_term%3DInformation-Bulletin%253A-Prescribed-burn-planned-near-Westridge&amp;data=05%7C02%7CBCWS.CAFCInformationOfficer%40gov.bc.ca%7C8c17969384fc4e054db308ddf085eef4%7C6fdb52003d0d4a8ab036d3685e359adc%7C0%7C0%7C638931180490944650%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=D%2B7iJCxewrhI1v5vE05wJEEO54Ln%2BStjVgiXlVYOvmQ%3D&amp;reserved=0\">Report function<\/a> in the BC Wildfire App to report a wildfire.
