{"id":19443,"date":"2025-05-05T18:29:40","date_gmt":"2025-05-06T01:29:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/?p=19443"},"modified":"2025-06-23T14:13:53","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T21:13:53","slug":"category-2-and-3-open-fire-prohibitions-coming-into-effect-across-the-cariboo-fire-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/category-2-and-3-open-fire-prohibitions-coming-into-effect-across-the-cariboo-fire-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Category 2 and 3 open fire prohibitions coming into effect across the Cariboo Fire Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>CARIBOO FIRE CENTRE \u2013 Effective at 12:00 p.m. (noon) PDT on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires and associated activities will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre, including the Tsilhqot\u2019in (Xeni Gwet\u2019in) Declared Title Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/safety\/wildfire-status\/prevention\/fire-bans-and-restrictions\/open-burning#Cat2\">Category 2<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/safety\/wildfire-status\/prevention\/fire-bans-and-restrictions\/open-burning#Cat3\">Category 3<\/a> open fires must be fully extinguished by noon on May 7, 2025. The prohibitions will remain in place until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Oct. 31, 2025, or until the Orders are rescinded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This prohibition applies to the entire Cariboo Fire Centre, including the Tsilhqot&#8217;in (Xeni Gwet&#8217;in) Declared Title Area, the Cariboo Chilcotin Forest District, the 100 Mile House Forest District and the Quesnel Forest District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, this prohibition applies to the following types of land within municipal boundaries:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Parks, conservancies and recreation areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recreation sites, recreation trails, interpretive forest sites and trail-based recreation areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ecological reserves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wildlife management areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Private managed forest land<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The following activities and use of the following equipment, materials and substances will also be prohibited:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Binary exploding targets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fireworks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Burn barrels or burn cages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Controlled air incinerators<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Air curtain burners<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carbonizers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please view a map of the Prohibition Order Area below. We urge members of the public and industry to be extra vigilant when monitoring and in ensuring extinguishment of open burns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Offences and fines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone found in contravention of an open fire prohibition may be issued a ticket for $1,150, required to pay an administrative penalty of $10,000, or, if convicted in court, fined up to $100,000 and\/or sentenced for up to one year in jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your fire causes or contributes to a wildfire, you may be fined up to $1 million and\/or sentenced to up to 3 years in jail, as well as be responsible for all firefighting and associated costs. More information about the Wildfire Act and Regulation is available online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Report a wildfire<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cariboo Fire Centre would like to thank the public for their continued help in preventing wildfires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To report a wildfire, dial *5555 on a cell phone or call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free.
