LILLOOET \u2013 The BC Wildfire Service in partnership with the T\u2019itqet First Nations, the District of Lillooet and the Lillooet Volunteer Fire Department will be conducting a prescribed burn covering up to 73 hectares. The burn units are located within one kilometre east, south and northeast of the District of Lillooet municipal airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Smoke may be visible from Lillooet, properties within the Squamish Lillooet Regional District and to motorists travelling along Highway 12 and 99 North.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Key goals of this prescribed burn include wildfire risk reduction through the removal of dead grasses and juvenile tree encroachment, as well as providing critical cross training opportunities for BC Wildfire Service personnel and members of the Lillooet Fire Department and T\u2019itqet First Nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
